Isuzu Turquoise’s New Euro IV Engine

Isuzu 4H 5.2L Diesel Engine is an engine that incorporates the worldwide knowledge of Isuzu diesel engine technology. The 4H's excellent performance and quality are based on the many technological advantages the engine has over competing engines.

Starting the last quarter of 2006, Isuzu Turquoise series midibuses will be powered by Isuzu 4HK1E4C diesel engines, which are qualified for Euro 4 regulation of the European Union.

4HK1E4C is an inline 4 cylinder direct injected diesel engine with a displacement of 5.2 litres. The engine is fitted with a turbo charger and an intercooler in order to boost the engine performance and torque, and it features a cast-iron cylinder block with dry sleeve cylinder liners and a ladder type crankcase. 4HK1E4C includes the employment of four valve mechanism per cylinder that are operated via a single camshaft, Common Rail fuel injection system, water cooled exhaust gas re-circulation (EGR) system, and the change of combustion chamber form. The larger engine displacement with the common rail fuel injection system increases both in maximum output 190 HP at 2600 rpm and a steady torque value 513 Nm between 1600-2000 rpm meeting Euro 4 emission levels.

The common rail technology is supported with the ECM (Electronic Control Module) system, which enables the vehicle to function at the highest performance level in the most economical way possible. The ECM coordinates the whole combustion process with the help of various sensors installed in several major points inside the engine. ECM controls the common rail combustion process by deciding the right amount of fuel and the best timing to inject the required amounts inside the burning chambers. The optimum amount of fuel burned under the ideal pressure conditions by the ECM system assures the most efficient fuel consumption while the driver enjoys the maximum performance. The best news is that, Isuzu drivers enjoy the benefits of the system in all terrain and weather conditions as ECM calculations are not effected by the altitude or the climate (temperature).

Cutting-Edge Diesel Technology of Isuzu: What Is New With 4 HK1 E4C

Common Rail System: Ultra-high pressure fuel injection system further enhances combustion efficiency and reduces PM and black smoke. Highly sophisticated electronic device controls injection timing and amount up to 1/1,000 second accuracy. It optimizes the combustion conditions and reduces NOx. The new engine is Common Rail, just like the older Euro 3 model.

VGS (Variable Geometry System) Turbo Charger: It makes the turbo entrance size (nozzle clearance) vary. That enables highly effective turbo performance starting from the low rotation speed. It improves low-speed torque and acceleration performance and reduces fuel consumption and PM (particulate matter).

Cooled EGR: It cools high-temperature exhaust gas with cooler. Then the cooled gas is sent back to air intake side. By lowering the intake air temperature, oxygen content is lowered and NOx is reduced.

DPD ( Diesel Particulate Defuser ): DPD is a system that uses oxidation catalyst to clean the NOx and HC, and equipped with a filter to catch PM discharged from the diesel engine. The function of the filter is to catch PM, so some amount of deposits are always present. DPD is a latest technology to reduce PM and meets new regulations in Europe (Euro IV).

OBD (On Board Diagnosis): On Board Diagnosis (OBD) monitors DeNOx system monitoring, Diesel Particulate Defuser (DPD) monitoring and electronic fuelling system monitoring.
